IN MY ROOM

Melting into the floor I lie there,
uncertainty hangs from my ceiling
Upside down—it looks at me with beady eyes
Always threatening to fall

I shudder, and my room shakes too
begging me to shut the door
 but I never do,

The cold breeze keeps something deep inside me awake

But dampness in the air will smother anything
that dreams to burn, so
(please) just keep quiet
and mind your manners?

We mustn't disturb what I slipped under the floorboards
It isn’t meant for sorry eyes
Or lustful hands
Just my body to enjoy

Now bite your tongue
— don’t mutter a word
Because you have to remember
I invited you in but I never said
 it was yours
